The charming town of Nieu-Bethesda is gearing up for its annual Pump-Palooza Pumpkin Festival, set to take place on Saturday, 8 April 2023, over the Easter weekend at Tot-Hier-Toe Padstal. This eagerly anticipated event promises a day of fun, food and festivities for visitors of all ages from 09:00 ’till late.

For just a R20 entrance fee, attendees can browse a variety of stalls offering a range of pumpkin-themed wares, from potjiekos and delicious treats to beautiful handmade crafts. The festival will also include an Easter egg hunt and egg run, where children can enjoy some fun and a “langarm” dance later in the evening.

The highlight of the event, however, is sure to be the pumpkin competition and auction. Last year’s winning pumpkin weighed in at a whopping 220kg, and it will be interesting to see if any growers can surpass that record this year. The auction is always a lively affair, with attendees bidding on their favourite pumpkins and contributing to the event’s charitable cause.

This festival is a charity event in aid of the elderly. Last year, Huis van der Graaff and Middelburg Old Age Home were the beneficiaries, receiving 30kg wors, 20kg mince, 10 x venison pies, 4 x legs of lambs, and canned goods. It’s great to see the event supporting such a worthy cause, and visitors can feel good knowing their attendance is making a positive impact on the community.

If you’re feeling hungry after all that pumpkin-themed fun, don’t worry – there will be plenty of delicious pumpkin eats and treats available at local restaurants in the village. And if you’re planning on attending the festival, it’s a good idea to book your accommodation early to avoid disappointment. Nieu-Bethesda is a picturesque town with plenty to offer, making it the perfect destination for an Easter weekend getaway.
