This unpretentious, rustic and secluded Karoo home is where internationally acclaimed SA playwright & writer Athol Fugard – famous for his play ‘The Road to Mecca’ – wrote between 1990 & 2017.

It’s on the peaceful north-eastern corner of this remote, quaint village.

You’ll be smitten by the purest Karoo air, extraordinary night skies, crackling winter fires, deep frost, sometimes snow, & tranquillity.
The house has a spacious lounge, that opens northwards onto a private stoep, Karoo garden and an awesome view.

Although known by locals as ‘the Fugard House’, the appropriately-named ‘Sneeuberg Lodge’ draws travellers, explorers, friends & families seeking to bond and reconnect; it’s an inspiring creative space.
